Latest Newsletter introduction

February 2010

Hello and welcome to February's e-bulletin from the Scottish Community Land Network.

Yet again I'm typing this from beneath a layer of winter snow (well, not literally, obviously, that would be tough on the fingers!).  But it seems winter hasn't finished with us yet and the icicles are clinging on for now.  So stay inside and warm your cockles with news and tales from the community land world.  There's a mixed bag this month, with items ranging from the pragmatism of high-tech developments in the world of livestock through to a more enigmatic consideration of religion and land reform.

And if that isn't enough diversity for you, there are two new case studies this month, including a look a the woolly jumpered, Father Ted-ified world of the Aran Islands in Ireland.  There's also a chance to find out what the Sleat Community Trust in Skye are working on right now, including their North West Energy 2010 event, which takes place early in March.

But that's not the only opportunity for anyone who's keen to get out and about in the near future.  The Community Land Unit at Highlands and Islands Enterprise are organising an event at Knoydart where there'll be a chance to think about how community land groups can make the most of their assets.  And (with just the smallest sprinkling of self-promotion), the event will include a discussion about your very special, utterly unique (OK, OK, enough with the superlatives!) SCLN and how the network may be able to help promote social enterprises within community land groups.

So, happy reading and may your snow-falls be pretty and white and not in the least bit damp and skiddy.

Best wishes

Tamsin Morris & Chris York
